The R4R Team: From idea to reality

Friends,
Thank you once again for your generosity during my
MarathonsForHope.org campaign in 2006. All totaled we've raised over $75,000!

This year I hope to generate even more awareness and donations for my favorite charities.

In August of 2008, I badly broke my leg in a parachute accident. I have been in and out of military hospitals since, including four months continuously, and have endured 14 operations to save my leg.

I've been told that I will probably never run on this leg again.

Not surrendering my fundraising commitments, two weeks after being released to my first outpatient status, I transferred to the wheelchair division and completed the New York City Marathon on November 2, 2008 in support of Achilles Track Club Freedom Team.
This led me to the idea of crossing the Island of Great Britain in an arm-powered wheelchair, approximately 900 miles!

I have since completed two more marathons and have also taken to coaching paralympic athletes. In late 2008, I was hospitalized (again) due to a raging infection in my leg bones.

I'm outpatient again and injuries and doctors permitting,...

I will attempt an arm-powered crossing of Great Britain, in less than 240 hours or 10 days, for the benefit of organizations I believe passionately in and in honor of the fallen as well as the injured coalition troops with whom I've shared hospital rooms for ten months.

I'd appreciate it if you would join me by clicking on the logos below and giving generously to these very worth while organizations.

Warmest regards,
Rick Ryan
